[attr="class","likedo"] [attr="class","likedotitle"] [attr="class","likedotitle2"]Spring Festival Battle Round! [attr="class","likedoinfo"]The change from the Appeals Stage to the Battle Stage was one of much anticipation - the crowd was thrilled after such incredible performances. No one expected a Dratini. How about that Mawile, man? There was excitement in the very air - judges, contestants, crowd, and presenters could feel it, like the fire of the Infernape statues that decorated the area. Tall red buildings rose out, allowing for plentiful room to sit a crowd and still have a safe and active battle. The open sky looked over them, the weather making no attempt to foul up such an exciting tournament. And sure, while the large stone platform that was denoted as a battle arena seemed more ornamental than not, it was sturdily built, enough to resist even the strongest of Earthquakes. Once again, two contestants were brought out in procession, to a more upbeat and energetic version of the same music they had been brought to beforehand. The crowd cheered wildly for the two contestants - much like the other Coordinators, they had been quite a show to watch. The same presenter came out, standing between the two contestants, her cheery demeanor still quite present. She had her Qi Pao freshened up after that incident with the Sawk, but otherwise, little to her outfit remained changed, only a change in accessories, opting for some delicate hairpins. "Welcome, everyone, to our second round, the Battle Round! This is no ordinary battle, however - the Contestants battle not to defeat one another in combat, but in style! Show off, show your opponent up, or just make a show in general - winning isn't the focus here, but instead making a spectacle!" She announced in her cheery voice, trying to thrill the crowd. It worked, unsurprisingly, as they clapped in a clamor, wanting to see this battle. "We'd like to remind contestants that Pokemon are to only touch or attack other Pokemon - acts towards other contestants or people in general are not permissible." She added in a serious tone, some people in the crowd giggling but getting silenced quickly. She, however, quickly picked back up the mood. "On one side, she's the cute star of the Lunar New Year - Arietta Connally ! On the other side, this Breeder is going to show she's got style by the bushels: @honokasato! Who will win this Battle Round?"Taking a step back off the stage to act as referee, she raised her hand in a classic motion. "Contestants, you may release your Pokemon and begin!"[attr="class","likedosub"]Notes - This battle is not won necessarily by knocking out your opponent - your goal is to make a spectacle and show off while making your opponent look bad. Remember to check Horizon's Coordination Guide for details!
- Please adhere to the rules in the Horizon's Pokemon Battle Guide
- Usage of the Battle Calculator will not be enforced in this Contest - however, if both contestants desire to use it, they are free to do so.
- This round will run from February 16th - February 23rd

A bright pink haired girl strut onto the stage, no longer wearing the monkey mascot outfit she had been before.. but the brightly colored and childish stage outfit she had chosen to be her typical image. Her expression was shiny and bright, looking so excited to see the crowd. She would give the appearance of trying to hold back giving them attention, but being unable to as she started waving to them. Just a quick one.
She would turn her rival a moment later.
She hated her.
Arietta already hated every single one of the people she was against in this thing, all of her "quote unquote".. "rivals". They were obstacles. They were in her way.
And repulsively, a good amount of them were from Kalos.. the land she was also born from. The land she had seen for the flith that it was. She was supposed to find a fresh start here. Instead she saw faces she swore she had glimpsed before.
Arietta hated following the crowd. Why had so many Kalosians made their way here? Must have followed the adorable Little Aria. Of course. They had to have followed her, dammit.
Not a fraction of these ill feelings were visible on her face though, keeping an eternally chipper face as she nudged Mawile onto the stage. It burst out in bright colors, shining lights, and golden twinkles. Mawile once she stood there looked as fierce as she could, but there was always something adorable about it's expressions. At least this is way that Arietta felt about the Pokemon. She could only hope the audience shared such a feeling. As she always did.
If they didn't, they would have to learn the error of their ways. Like she would teach to this.. Honoka person.
"Watch out, Mawile and me are reaaaal tough." she giggled, sticking her tounge out at the blonde. |

[attr="class","icon"] | Honoka stepped confidently out onto the stage, shoulders thrown back, chin held high, a fierce but happy look on her face, like she couldn't wait to show her skill in battle. Which was exactly how she felt. She wore the same outfit she'd worn for her appeals performance, using it kind of like a signature for this competition. Her Dratini, as it flew out of the pokeball she tossed up in front of her, didn't have its outfit on anymore, however. They had even washed the painted character off its back.
Honoka's first impression of her opponent was that she was a child. How old was she? She looked like he couldn't be more than 13 or 14. She was cute in her little pink outfit, and she seemed nice enough, judging from the look on her face. Though Honoka knew looks could be deceiving. She had an interesting Pokemon with her. A Mawile. She wondered briefly where one could acquire such a Pokemon, her Breeder instinct ever present. The thought was fleeting, though, barely passing through her mind before the thought was gone.
The audience had an air of excitement and tension, something Honoka could feel up on stage, and it made the blood pump hard through her veins, adrenaline coursing through them. She could feel herself getting excited for the battle. She wasn't sure exactly how her Dratini would match up against the Mawile, but she knew from her trainer days that none of the Pokemon she had were a particularly good match up against the steel-type pokemon. She'd just have to prove she could do it anyway.
"Hate to break it to ya, kid, but so are we. Let's have a good fight, okay?" Honoka grinned at the girl, a friendly smile placed on her face, and she nodded at the girl. "Arietta, right? I hope we can become friends after this."
Honoka ran over her Pokemon's move in her head, wondering how she could start this. If she could help it, she was going to try not to make the first move. But at the same time, considering what moves Mawile could have, she wondered if maybe going first and getting the speed advantage would be the better choice.

For just a single moment.. it would break her. The words that she heard would cause even Arietta in her most blissful of stage moments to break. Just a single gesture.. her eye would twitch just the littlest bit. This woman's words hitting her in a way she was likely describe through some sort of tortured metaphor.
Arietta felt that if she had wanted to be friends she shouldn't have chosen to get in her way. That's how she felt. Every other coordinator was in her way. This wasn't some game, this was her future, on the line. This was her putting everything on the table and trying to make something of herself.
And right now, this girl was positioned to be literally the person who had to see to it that didn't happen. That she didn't win this compeition, and every likely many others in the future.
Where was the FRIENDSHIP in such a relationship?
Still she reminded herself.. she was on stage. She was better than acid and bile. She was better than drama. She was above it. So other than the single moment of her eye twitching, she managed to keep her sweet smile alive.
And so she nodded saying uh-huh and looking quite energetic to do so. "You and your dragon are so pretty, I hate to mess you guys up! But.." Arietta picked up her gloved finger and swirled it in a circle around her. "I'll cool you guys off instead!"
She giggled, watching as her Mawile turned so it's jaw was facing Dratini. The jaw would lift from the ground and rock back and forth for a moment in a almost hypnotizing fashion. Mawile was using Swords Dance, having her jaw dance in a threatening but smooth motion. The teeth on the jaw would seem to gleam as if brightened, sharpened, signifying the change that Mawile had raised her own deadly potential.
Then, without a wasted motion, the rocking back and forth would transition to a spinning motion. Faster, faster, faster.. the jaw of the adorable Mawile would start to spin like a fan. Picking up wind, an Icy Wind. The freeze would seem to happen almost instantly after her jaw picked up speed, the cold creating some twinkling lights as the water in the air would freeze and sparkle off the lights.
The plan to start with Icy Wind was one of her favorites and here it was even more effective. It was showy and a bit passive, not creating the sort of rough and tumble display she wanted to avoid right off the bat. Still, the cold was quite chilly.. and Dragon type Pokemon felt the cold even harder than most. Not only would it do some damage still, but it would lower the Pokemon Speed.. causing their movements to be heavy. She hoped a slow Dratini wasn't as graceful looking as the Pokemon appeared right now.

[attr="class","icon"] | Honoka's Dratini watched as the Mawile swayed back and forth, the fierce looking jaw swinging before it. Honoka watched as her Pokemon seemed almost mesmerized by the swaying, though still seeming wary. Slowly, and then faster, the swaying turned into a spinning motion. The spinning of the Mawile's jaw went faster and faster. All of a sudden, the tempurate on stage dropped dramatically, Honoka recognizing the move as Icy Wind. That would likely lower her Pokemon's speed, but shouldn't affect it too badly otherwise, she hoped. She could see her Dratini shiver slightly, and knew it had affected the Pokemon.
Honoka made a few hand motions in sight of her Pokemon, and it would cast Hyper Beam at the Mawile. It took the Dratini longer than normal to cast the move, thanks to the Icy Wind from Arietta's Mawile. After that, the Dratini would attempt to use Outrage on the Mawile, though its movements were obviously slowed. It would have to wait a little bit now after using Outrage, so Honoka hoped it would hit, else they might be in trouble. Her mind was running a mile a minute trying to come up with something that would work should outrage have been dodged. Her Dratini would then try to stay out of the way of any counters thrown its way.

The Hyper Beam hit Mawile, who had planted her feet firmly in.. allowing herself to take the hit. The Pokemon didn't wince or allow herself to appear as if she was hurt in anyway, even though she had certainly felt it. More than she had figured she would, given the circumstances.
As the attack finally died down, Arietta urged her Mawile to leap forward. "Keep pushing, princess!" she cried. This was intended so at the same time, Dratini would leap forward for it's powerful Outrage attack. The attack of ancient rage would slam into Mawile, but it's own magical fairy forces would seem to cause it to blink off Mawile's powerful but inconspicuous steel form.
One of Arietta's favorite things about Mawile was even though it seemed to wear what it was on it's sleeve, something you shouldn't underestimate because of how cute it was.. it often still surprised people. People often couldn't surmise her or her Pokemon at first glance.
"Let's take our chance and steal the show, we hate to Play Rough with you!" she giggled, thrusting her finger high in the air dramatically as her Mawile would attempt to slam itself hard against the opposing Pokemon. The energy that her Pokemon expressed while doing so was almost cute, and if the attack connected it would actually make a squeaking sound and burst outward in a sparkly and honestly.. adorable blast of fairy energy. It was backed by the strange Fairy power that had caused Outrage to be so ineffective. Unfortunately for Dratini, she had a feeling Dragon's weren't so good with a little adorable rough housing. But she had to take this chance to decide this decesively. It should still have been in point blank range due to the Outrage attack. She normally would have held back.. but she felt taking her opprotunites, and winning big, might actually be more thematic for the contest.

You don't know them like I do Mawile takes Hyper Beam! It's not very effective.. Mawile is hit by Outrage! It doesn't affect Mawile.. Mawile uses Play Rough! (I will respond immediately and make sure you get a couple more in, so sorry.)

[attr="class","icon"] | Honoka winced as she watched her Pokemon get his with the Mawile's play rough. Her Pokemon had most definitely felt it; mawile was definitely the better in this match up, and Honoka couldn't be too terribly upset about that. She'd have like to have won, but she knew once she saw she was up against a Mawile with her Dratini that, unless she got really lucky, the match was already decided. But damn it if she wasn't going to make the younger girl work for her victory.
The Play Rough hit her Dratini dead on, having come from point blank, and her Dratini recoiled from the impact, flying back a could of feet. The Pokemon, tough as it was trying to be, looked like it had certainly felt that hit. If that happened again, Honoka wondered if her Pokemon would end up passing out. She quickly ran over her Pokemon's moves in her head, not liking the odds. She couldn't use another outrage, that would spell loss for them immediately thanks to the recovery time. Maybe she could get off another Hyper Beam before the mawile struck again. Or, if it got close again, maybe hitting it with a point blank hyper beam would do some good.
Either way, she had to figure out a way to give her Pokemon a few more minutes to recover. She knew what she would do then. "I admit, you guys are pretty tough. It was certainly a poor match up for me with your Fairy-type, but gives me a chance to learn how to beat trainers like you, too." She was hoping to get the girl talking for a little bit. If it worked, it would give her Dratini a chance to recover. If not, well, she hoped her plan worked.
If the girl kept talking and gave her Dratini time to recover, the Pokemon would attack with another Hyper Beam, and then Aqua Tail, after her Pokemon had had a few more minutes to recover, though it would still be slower thanks to the icy wind.
If the girl didn't respond to Honoka and attacked again like she hoped she wouldn't, her Dratini would have a Hyper Beam ready to blast at the Mawile should it get close again.

Yeah, Arietta was actually fine with taking for a moment.
To be honest, Arietta was feeling extremely flustered and pinned to a corner. It was actually so bad a match up, from Arietta's perspective, that she had started to suspect sabotage. Why had they chosen Dratini in the first place when they are a Breeder and should definitely have access to many different Pokemon? Why had they used a move that was ineffective? Arietta wasn't getting a chance to really show off her Mawile's skills with such a short match, and this was quickly looking like it over in a second. Neither of them would get much points from this round because of this.
She hadn't felt good about this contest from the get go and it was only getting worse. This Breeder was probably planted in the contest by another coordinator. This is why they shouldn't just let anyone join these things. Who knew how far it went..
She had to think of her own way to try to give herself a little bit more points.. and she quickly found her route in talking as well.
"Poor poor pretty baby, Mawile didn't mean to hurt you like that.. she can't help herself." she said, sounding legitimately concerned. Mawile would use Fake Tears at this point as if trying to appear guilty.. looking all ashamed of herself. Aww..
After a moment of this though, Arietta put up her finger as if thinking of a brand new idea! "I know! Let's play now!" she clapped, thinking it sounded like such a good idea. "Since we've proven we're the strongest already.. now we can share the bounty and the crowd with our new friend." she giggled, and her Mawile would attempt to practically skip over towards her new friend, giving a friendly and sweet natured looking wave. Mawile was good at acting cute when she needed to too! Like trainer, like Pokemon.
She hoped this would suffice. The way she saw it.. it was her only avenue of keeping Mawile on the stage longer. Not only that but she figured either way that this Breeder responded would play into her hand. She would either look like a big jerk who was pointlessly attacking someone who wanted to be friends and had been nice, or she would look like someone who accepted that Mawile and Arietta were better.. and accepted that watever grace they had been given was just that.. a gift.

[attr="class","icon"] | Honoka wasn't sure she was able to get the right feel for this girl. She seemed marter than she let on, but she played the innocent child. Maybe Honoka was just over thinking it. She had met people like that who were cutesy and seemed deeper than they were, but weren't actually. She was a decent trainer, if anything. Her Mawile seemed pretty devoted to her, and had taken on her personality traits. The thing was acting downright adorable. She dismissed her thoughts, but the nagging feeling that the girl was more than she appeared wouldn't leave her mind, as much as she ignored it. But, then, sometimes it was just her reading too much into things.
"You certainly seem to be the stronger of us in this battle. It'd be wrong of me to deny that." She paused. "What do you mean, exactly? Share the bounty and the crowd?" Honoka was still going to be wary of the young girl, but for the time being, she called her Dratini off it's planned attack, though keeping the hyper beam at the ready just in case. "Isn't this supposed to be the battle round?" Whatever it was the girl had in mind, Honoka figured she would go with the flow for the time being. She did consider surrendering, or seeing if the girl meant a draw, however. The latter, she spoke aloud. "Did you mean a draw?"

Her sweet looking eyes widened, as surprised thoughts entered her head. She was confused for just a moment.. and then she replied. "Oh yes, I suppose that's a way we could call it. A draw. But what I'm really saying we both have the spotlight, let's do something fun first! No sense in wasting it! We still have some time!" She said, motioning to the clock with her pointer finger in a silly and dramatic way. Still, she was starting to get the impression this Breeder didn't know the first thing about this kinda stuff.. and needed someone as talented as Arietta for help. Although she supposed that anything bigger on the fly with someone you had no knowledge of was pretty impossible.
"Mawile, use Iron Head to throw Dratini in the air! The swirl a Flamethrower around them, but don't burn them!" She called, causing her Mawile to bound forward. Arietta motioned to her "partner" and said.. "Make sure they dance around the flames, and then do something cool when your falling, throw out something pretty attack or something! Don't be afraid to aim it at Mawile, it's okay! She's still strong!"
If the Dratini's partner allowed.. this is exactly what Mawile would attempt to do. Arietta had at least a slight hope that almost all the style points from this coordinated effort would go to her, the one who set it all up.

[attr="class","icon"] | "That sounds like fun! Sure, why not?" Her eyes lit up at another chance to show off her Pokemon. Honoka was always up for a little performing. Practice makes perfect, they said, and while she could argue she didn't need the practice she certainly wasn't going to turn it down when she got the chance, especially in something like this. Honoka's Dratini, being a natural drama queen, took the throw gallantly as it flew up into the air, having heard Honoka's okay. True to its drama queen stature, the Dratini did dance around in the flames some. As it flew upwards, it grabbed the end of its tail in its mouth and began to somersault in the air. When it reached the pinnacle of the throw, the Dratini acted much like, well, a dragon, staying true to its serpent-like dragon forme. It reared up in the flames, trying to look fierce and proud.
Honoka entended her hand into the air, open fist, palm up, and gave the great dragon in the flames a command. "Dratini, disperse the flames with a hyper beam, but make sure to cut down on the power some!" Her Pokemon, remembering what Arietta had said, aimed a hyper beam blast down towards the Mawile, aiming beside the Pokemon in an attempt to not hit it, though the blast was lessened. This would disperse the flames around the Pokemon as it began to fall, twisting in the air as if to seem like it were flying.
"Aqua Tail!" The pokemon slashed downward while it was still in the air before the flames had completely dispersed, creating a wave of steam and water droplets around the stage as it fell. The Pokemon landed gracefully on the stage next to the Mawile, using another move at Honoka's behest.
"Dragon dance!" The Dratini stayed close to the Mawile, the light from the Dragon dance enveloping them both, creating quite a scene on stage as the lights seemed almost to dim. She turned to glance at her "partner" to see her next move.

Mawile was no slouch, and when Dratini landed for it's dance, she went into her own dance as well, a Swords Dance, putting her back to Dratini and trying to synchronize their movements a tad while still appearing as if she was gaining powerful for a final blow. Mawile slowly turned around... For a split moment.. Arietta thought about slamming the Dratini hard, at close range, with yet another boost with a Play Rough.. basically thinking for a moment about playing rough herself. Mawile itself looked like she might just take the swing... but then she didn't. That was it. Arietta clapped and curtseyed and gave a smile. "Well done, well done!"
Arietta well.. she supposed that this was the better way to end the it. "Our Pokemon are such good sports. Yes. Thank you Princess." She nodded a little at Honoka, deciding at at the very least this girl didn't seem to be some kinda coordinator plant. She supposed she had overreacted a tad. Maybe she really did just not know what she was doing. If she didn't.. maybe she wasn't a threat. So maybe Arietta could relax around this one..
A little.
She and Mawile took a final bow to the crowd, expecting Honoka would do the same.
